A new force in bioplastics is launched

Stanelco Plc is pleased to announce the rebranding of its fast growing bioplastics division. The new company remains a fully owned subsidiary of Stanelco Plc but will be called Biome Bioplastics Limited.

Created to help grow this successful bioplastics business, the restructuring provides the division with its own identity and structure under the Biome brand. Stanelco Plc has seen significant growth over recent years due to this division and as a wholly owned subsidiary, Biome Bioplastics Limited will have the proposition and profile to take the business further.

Biome Bioplastics produces a wide range of biodegradable plastics, manufactured from renewable sources. The strength in its product offering has helped to position it as a leading producer of renewable plastics in the UK, Europe and worldwide and it continues to grow through research and innovation, developing new bioplastic products to suit the ever growing demands of industry.

The demand for biodegradable plastics from a renewable source has been growing quickly in recent years. Biome Bioplastics provides raw materials for the manufacture of products across many sectors including packaging, waste disposal, personal care, horticulture, construction and consumer electronics. As the demand for products that have a zero, or near zero impact, upon the environment grows, the demand for this type of material, across all sectors, will also grow. Ultimately, the applications are as broad as the specifier or brand owners imagination.

The new branding has been designed to fully represent the nature of this successful bioplastics business. ‘Biome’ is a scientific term used to describe ecosystems, generally ones that have similar climatic conditions. Bioplastic production is similar to that of an ecosystem, taking plant material and creating a product that, once used, is then recycled and degraded in the earth to provide nutrients for more plants – a circular motion represented by the logo.

Paul Mines, Chief Executive of Stanelco commented: “Stanelco’s bioplastics business has continued to achieve high levels of growth through the last two years, so it is appropriate at this time that it becomes described by a name that reflects its activities so well. Biome Bioplastics captures the essence of our activities in both the natural and business ecosystems.

We have invested considerable thought into this re-branding as Biome Bioplastics enters its next stage of growth, with an increasing portfolio of applications and end-uses. We look forward to working with our current and new customers under the new brand and further developing our scale within the marketplace.”

A new web site has been launched (www.biomebioplastics.com) to demonstrate the breadth of application of bioplastics in the manufacture of industrial and consumer products. Easy to navigate and comprehensive in content, the web site describes how bioplastics are manufactured, the many uses of the raw material and the wide range of product types available.

Biome Bioplastics continues to invest in the research and development of new bioplastic products to meet the ever changing demands of today’s industry and consumers. Advances in science have seen bioplastics developing to provide viable alternatives for a wide range of plastic products and future developments will only see additional benefits accruing from the use of this sustainable and renewable product.
