Neopac presents its latest developments at the 2010 Pharmapack Congress in Paris
The leading tube primary packaging manufacturer for the pharmaceutical industry based in Switzerland proudly presents two newcomers at this year’s Pharmapack Congress in Paris, namely new pharma grade fliptop caps and the roll-on system. Plus it presents the SwissStar award-winner, a new mediacenter, and the SFDA authorisation to launch Polyfoil® tubes on the Chinese market.
Neopac’s Head of Development, Andreas Geiger, will inform congress delegates about the latest pharmaceutical materials used in tube packaging.
New pharmaceutical grade fliptop closures – now available with a 25-mm diameter
Neopac is expanding its standard product range to include fliptop closures made from pharmaceutical-compatible materials. “As primary packaging manufacturers, we are emphasising the great care we take when selecting our materials in an attempt to ensure optimal customer and consumer safety“, says Martina Christiansen, Head of Pharmaceutical Sales & Marketing at Neopac.
The new “Pharma Fliptop Classic Line" complies with EP guidelines 3.1.3; 3.1.6; 3.2.2 and the FDA 21 CFR 177.1520. This closure is now also available with a 25-mm diameter and an orifice of 1.5 mm for volumes ranging from 15 to 50 ml.
An overview of the latest “Pharma Fliptop Classic Line" products:
Ø 25 – volume 15-50 ml – orifice 1.5 (screw neck)
Ø 30 – volume 15-50 ml – orifice 3.0/5.0 (screw neck)
Ø 40 – volume 15-50 ml – orifice 1.5/3.0/5.0 (snap-on neck)
New Polyfoil® Roll-on for oils and creams
“Roll-on applicators in tube format are in fashion”, urges Martina Christiansen, “They are unbreakable, can be applied directly and are extremely easy to handle”. She goes on to say: “With tube roll-on systems to date, we’ve often noticed that they do not function properly, depending on the product they contain. The product either sticks or the liquid is released when the slightest pressure is applied to the tube”. Neopac offers a novel solution to overcome these problems: the dual compartment roll-on system in the tube keeps the ball in place and only gives the oily lotion enough space to allow the finest of layers to be applied to the affected area. The anti-squeeze function stops the product from leaking out of the tube when pressure is applied. The slit size between the ball and the container can be adjusted according to the viscosity of the filling. That means there is also a standard width for creams.
Together with the tried and tested Polyfoil® tube and its high barrier properties, this patented application is a safe combination for pharmaceutical products.
Polyfoil® dropper tube from Neopac wins the SwissStar 2009 Award
The innovative Polyfoil® Dropper Tube from Neopac won the Swiss Star 2009 Award. The patented system is unbreakable, convenient to use and provides optimum protection for sensitive liquids.
Dropper systems are normally found with glass or plastic bottles. Both materials have disadvantages: glass is fragile and plastic has only minimal barrier properties. Therefore, the packaging experts, Neopac in Switzerland, developed a Polyfoil® dropper application system for its barrier tubes. The patented system is unbreakable, convenient to use and provides optimum protection for sensitive liquids. The tube is suitable for oxygen-sensitive eye, nose and ear drops, veterinary products and food supplements to name but a few.
The innovative development received official accolade at Lenzburg Castle at the end of October: the novel dropper tube won the highly coveted Swiss Star 2009 Award. This year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the most prestigious Swiss packaging award.
Precise and safe
The Neopac dropper tube is extremely convincing thanks to its high level of precision and safety. Regardless of the pressure applied to the tube, the drops are always the same size, thus ensuring accurate and consistent medicine dosage. The tube is suitable for both water- and oil-based solutions. The tamper-proof, tear-off band guarantees maximum protection. All materials that come into contact with the tube contents satisfy pharmaceutical primary packaging requirements.
Remarkable barrier properties
Polyfoil® tubes possess remarkable barrier properties: they protect against light and diffusion and are impermeable and corrosion-resistant. They allow a longer product shelf-life than polyethylene or Coex tubes. All of the dyes and varnishes used to decorate the new dropper tube are UV-tempered and, in direct contrast to heat-tempered dyes and varnishes, do not release any solvents during processing. Thus the recipient of the Swiss Star 2009 Award not only keeps the panel of judges and the customers happy, but also the environment.
Approval of Polyfoil® tubes by the SFDA China
Neopac established its first representative office in Shanghai in October 2008 in anticipation of the approval. Annie Ju, who has worked in China’s chemical and industrial markets for over 15 years, has been appointed Commercial Manager and will explore business opportunities in China’s pharmaceutical market for Neopac tubes.
Chinese customers, especially those involved in the production of ophthalmic, hemorrhoidal and animal health products, are extremely interested in superior packaging technologies and how such packaging can enable them to develop new products and improve their existing ones. High barrier Polyfoil tubes can provide Chinese pharmaceutical manufacturers with an impressive range of sizes including a 10mm tube with a 1 – 3ml fill, and a wide variety of nozzles and tamper evident features. Polyfoil tubes also meet international requirements that will enable manufacturers to expand their business beyond China’s borders. Additionally, Chinese customers trust the integrity and effectiveness of Swiss-made products.
“Having FDA approval in China will promote Neopac’s growth and continued expansion into the Asian markets,” says Annie Ju, Commercial Manager of Neopac in China. “It also ensures that our Polyfoil tubes will become the tube of choice for high quality, high barrier tubes in China’s pharmaceutical industry.”
