The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) is pleased to announce that David Workman is to be its new Director General. He will succeed Dr Martin Oldman who is due to retire later this year.David brings with him a wealth of industrial experience, having spent most of his career working in the printing and glass industries. Since 2001 he has been the Director General of the British Glass Manufacturers Confederation (BGMC) and between 2004 and 2009 was a very active President of the Glass Industry's European umbrella body, CPIV.Commenting on this appointment Bob McLellan, President of the CPI, said "We are very fortunate to have found someone of David's calibre to lead our dedicated and professional team of experts at the CPI. I look forward to working with him in order to further promote and defend the interests of all sectors of the Paper and related Industries".In a separate statement, the President of BGMC, Stephen Pollock-Hill, said "The Members of the Confederation would like to thank David for all of his hard work over the past nine years. He has been a keen advocate for the industry both within the UK and in Europe and the Confederation wishes him every success in this new venture".David Workman himself added "I am very exited by the challenges that this new role presents. All sectors of Manufacturing face similar issues which need to be dealt with through a recognised Trade Association and the CPI is already acknowledged as a very professional body, largely due to the excellent team that Martin Oldman has assembled over the years. I look forward to working with them in order to raise the profile of all Paper related sectors and to providing additional added value to the Members"David will be based at the CPI offices in Swindon and will take up his new role in April.
