Libby White reports.
Gordian Strapping has provided a system solution for Ribble Packaging – the integration of a vertical in-line pallet press and strapping system into its packaging line facility in Oldham, Lancashire. Ribble, a well established independent corrugated board manufacturer had invested substantially in new plant and machinery to expand production capabilities and warehousing operations.
The introduction of this solution was another of the company’s strategic investments following substantial growth, aimed at reducing operating costs and improving existing plant efficiencies, as well as enabling the company to broaden its product range and size.
Following a site survey, a 078 vertical compression strapper was selected including a pallet centering and turning device to provide the optimum solution. This handles the wide variety of products being produced as well as achieving a line capacity of 90 pallets per hour. Following previous experience, back-up and support was also a key factor. Through Gordian Strapping’s national engineering coverage, Ribble could get both local and specialised engineering support as well as UK based spares.
Operations Director, Gavin Williams is delighted with the solution and Gordian Strapping’s service – “The unit has proved to be very robust, reliable with efficiency at 99.8% machine availability running 24/6 and has been able to meet the substantial increase in production at this site. The team at Gordian Strapping is very much like us in that they are able to offer mutual value which is key in developing long-term relationships. Like us, they pride themselves on the service and support they offer to their customers, from the first meeting through delivery and installation and aftercare maintenance”.
