Australian company, Barokes Pty Ltd (now registered in Europe as Vinsafe International Pty Ltd), and French filler, Cacolac S.A.S, have this month signed an agreement appointing Bordeaux based Cacolac to fill wine in a can under the European patent.

Vinsafe is the only globally patented wine packaging system which allows wine to be canned with quality, integrity, stability and extended shelf life. Granted in 2006, the EU patent for wine in a can covers the entire process for packaging of wine in a can/can bottle.
Cacolac is the second European filling facility licensed to fill to wine in a can this year, with Spanish company, Font Salem based in Valencia, licensed in May.
Based in Léognan, just south of Bordeaux, Cacolac is recognised as a filler of quality products. Cacolac’s decision to work with Vinsafe is strategically based given its location within one of France’s premium wine growing regions. Cacolac Director, Christian Maviel, stated “we are surrounded by premium wine producers looking to access new international markets and consumers with their wines and after much investigation we decided that the only viable option is Vinsafe. We would not risk filling wine for brand owners with centuries of winemaking history behind them without the use of the globally patented Vinsafe wine packaging system and the comprehensive support which is provided to us by Barokes”.
The Cacolac facility will undergo a comprehensive accreditation process in early August, and is expected to be ready to deploy the Vinsafe specifications to fill wine in a can soon afterwards. Others in Europe have tried to fill wine in a can but risk both their Brand and possible infringement of the global wine in a can patents held by Barokes.
