Bordeaux Filler Licensed to Fill Wine in a Can under EU Patent

Australian company, Barokes Pty Ltd (now registered in Europe as Vinsafe International Pty Ltd), and French filler, Cacolac S.A.S, have this month signed an agreement appointing Bordeaux based Cacolac to fill wine in a can under the European patent.

Vinsafe is the only globally patented wine packaging system which allows wine to be canned with quality, integrity, stability and extended shelf life.  Granted in 2006, the EU patent for wine in a can covers the entire process for packaging of wine in a can/can bottle.

Cacolac is the second European filling facility licensed to fill to wine in a can this year, with Spanish company, Font Salem based in Valencia, licensed in May.

Based in Léognan, just south of Bordeaux, Cacolac is recognised as a filler of quality products. Cacolac’s decision to work with Vinsafe is strategically based given its location within one of France’s premium wine growing regions.  Cacolac Director, Christian Maviel, stated “we are surrounded by premium wine producers looking to access new international markets and consumers with their wines and after much investigation we decided that the only viable option is Vinsafe.  We would not risk filling wine for brand owners with centuries of winemaking history behind them without the use of the globally patented Vinsafe wine packaging system and the comprehensive support which is provided to us by Barokes”.

The Cacolac facility will undergo a comprehensive accreditation process in early August, and is expected to be ready to deploy the Vinsafe specifications to fill wine in a can soon afterwards. Barokes CEO, Greg Stokes, commented “we are delighted that Cacolac has taken the decision to work with us as an approved Vinsafe filling facility in Europe.  Given the intense interest in Vinsafe at Vinexpo held in Bordeaux in June this year, having a licensed Vinsafe filler located in Bordeaux is a significant recognition of Vinsafe as the only patented and proven wine in a can technology that can be trusted with European wine brands. We have a number of French wine producers interested in filling wine in a can and Cacolac is now well placed to service these customers.  These traditional ‘old world’ winemakers with their established brands and wines recognise the benefits of the Vinsafe cutting edge technology.  They view Vinsafe as a trusted technology which they are confident in using to reach new global markets and consumer demographics.”

Others in Europe have tried to fill wine in a can but risk both their Brand and possible infringement of the global wine in a can patents held by Barokes.  With two licensed Vinsafe fillers located in the major wine regions of Valencia (Spain) and Bordeaux (France) and backed by global packager, Ball Packaging Europe, licensed to produce cans for wine, the European supply chain for Vinsafe is now established and well placed to service European wineries looking to a proven alternative packaging system for their wines.  With a foundation based on over fifteen years of comprehensive and continual research and development, Vinsafe is the only internationally patented, recognised and trusted complete technology platform proven to deliver premium quality wine in a can with integrity, stability and longevity (extended shelf life).

Vinsafe is endorsed by Masters of Wine, Peter Scudamore-Smith and Philip Goodband, who see the global development of wine in a can as being underpinned by Vinsafe and demonstrated by the success of the Barokes range of wines in a can.  With over 125 wine competition medals, including Platinum, 7 Gold, a number of ‘Best in Class’ and nomination for ‘Best at Show’, these accolades clearly demonstrate that Vinsafe’s proven patented protocols have the ability to produce a premium quality wine in a can with integrity, stability and extended shelf life.  Additionally, Barokes’ strategy in purposefully holding back parcels of stock with age as part of its ongoing QA/QC and entering this stock in wine competitions further supports this with a number of silver and bronze medals awarded to Barokes in 2008 and 2009 for wines produced in 2005.

The successful filling of wine in a can is complex and unlike other beverage filling techniques thereby requiring comprehensive processes, technical support and supervision which is only available through Vinsafe and its network of accredited suppliers.  This is why quality wine producers only trust their brand and reputation to Vinsafe licensed and accredited supply chain partners.
