Stickpacks allow patients to take medicines comfortably and safely. Exact dosage and consumption without additional liquids are positive criteria for the consumer as well as for prescribing. The benefits deriving from the use of stickpacks are also interesting for producers. In particular, the industry also values the marketing-specific aspects of stickpacks. Full-surface printing of the sticks fosters an impressive brand image. Consumption of films is reduced by up to 30 percent, thereby reducing production costs whilst simultaneously improving the environmental impact of the product.

MediSeal produces the stickpacks with a line for the primary and secondary packaging of free-flowing powders, granulates, pellets, or liquids. PackExpo 2012 in Chicago will see the LA600 SP stickpack solution in combination with the P1600 sideload cartoner as a line, which ensures maximum process reliability thanks to the design of the system: the sticks are positively guided along the entire process chain. This consistently prevents free fall or random distribution of the sticks. As a result, this leads to excellent output quality with high overall equipment efficiency (OEE).
Tailored to pharmaceutical requirements
For stick lengths from 45 to 160 mm the LA600 SP achieves an output of up to 1000 sticks per minute. The LA600 SP is now complemented by the renowned P1600 cartoner in the side-load process; this enables an output of up to 100 cartons per minute.
Maximum mobility of the installation is ensured by the strictly modular construction. This compact solution can be flexibly configured in the line layout. It can fit in with different users' space requirements. This means that extended solutions such as L or U shapes can be accommodated.
The essential transfer of production from the LA 600SP to the P1600 cartoner has been complemented by practical functionality: the decoupling serves as a buffer. This perfects the operation of the line by keeping up with any small interruptions in the stickpack machine. This decreases the reject rate, and overall equipment efficiency is increased.
The transfer onto the cartoner has been designed from the outset for maximum reliability. Direct suction wheel transfer ensures direct and precise positioning of the sticks in the cassettes of the cartoner feed system. This means that the transfer of sticks and their stacks into the sideloader is always well-regulated and reliable.
MediSeal is providing a new solution based on existing know-how and offering maximum process reliability and the greatest possible flexibility. The line offers the industry plenty of scope for individual enhancements. Additional functions such as a seal check or a balance can be incorporated. Additional benefits for the user include short downtimes for maintenance. The highly unusual possibility of wet cleaning of cassettes is a highlight of this implementation.
The new LA600 SP-P1600 stickpack line meets the demand for flexibility, mobility and OEE through consistent implementation of customers' requirements.
