The SiOx coating technology has been developed by Amcor’s R&D team. Apart from the Ceramis® production line, there also is a R&D line. Both machines are located in the Kreuzlingen plant (Switzerland) which, in 2011, has become the Center of Excellence for Amcor’s vacuum coating technology.

The pilot line with a width of only 715 mm is technically comparable to the main production line and was widely refurbished and optimized in 2011. It is a worldwide unique machine that can flexibly combine various vacuum coating processes. Since 1990 it has essentially contributed to the quality and the properties of the Ceramis® films, e.g. regarding:
optical properties
plasma pre-treatment for the excellent SiOx adhesion on the carrier film
stability of the coating process
good convertability of Ceramis® films
Due to the close cooperation between the R&D line and the main production line, the latest developments can be directly implemented into the production.
However, the pilot line is not only used to further develop the coating process, but also to run trial productions with customer materials.
