Working in partnership, MULTIVAC brings their leading-edge tech-nology in thermoforming, and solutions while DuPont Teijin FilmsTM brings their unique expertise in customized thermoformable and sealant films.
MYLAR® COOK films are thermoformable films, which were spe-cially developed for the preparation of food in the high temperature range up to 218 degrees Celsius (425 degrees Fahrenheit). The food product is cooked in the oven or in the microwave in its sealed pack. Due to this process, the aromas, vitamins, minerals and inherent moisture of the product are largely retained during the cooking process. When a certain pressure is reached, the seal seam of the pack opens by itself. The food is then browned in the open pack. The constant heat transfer during the two cooking phases ensures that consistent cooking results are achieved and it reduces the cooking time by up to 30 percent. MYLAR® COOK films also contribute to a reduction of energy consumption in private homes, restaurants and large-scale kitchens. In addition, Mylar® Cook is an ideal food packaging solution for sous vide applications.
"The Mylar® Cook concept is up to now unique in the market. We are delighted about the cooperation agreement with DuPont Teijin FilmsTM, with whom we have already successfully implemented several projects, among these for example the project with the Tas-sal Group, an Australian operator of salmon farms", emphasizes Bernard Leveau of MULTIVAC. The Application Centers of the MULTIVAC national companies are making capacity available for processing trials and customer consultation with MYLAR® COOK. In addition, DuPont Teijin FilmsTM and MULTIVAC are supporting the scale-up of Farmland® Oven Perfect™ Fresh Pork products “Dinner’s in the Bag™”.
According to Joe Kraft, DuPont Teijin Films™ Convenience Pack-aging’s Business Director, “DuPont Teijin Films™ believes MULTI-VAC is the best partner to bring Mylar® Cook to the market. MUL-TIVAC’s overall experience in equipment and supporting thrermo-forming packaging solutions will ensure that Mylar® Cook will work flawlessly in each packaging application and setting.”
High level of food safety
MYLAR® COOK was originally developed for the packaging of food containing protein (meat, fish etc). Since then other areas of application have emerged, such as for example the packing for bakery businesses of dough pieces, which can be baked in the oven.
MYLAR® COOK offers users a high level of food safety. Cooks and private consumers do not come into contact with raw meat when cooking (no-touch concept). This also significantly reduces the risk of cross contamination. The self-contained cooking system reduces clean-up time and water consumption. Among the many packaging properties of MYLAR® COOK are strong and leak-proof sealing, as well as a high degree of puncture resistance from the film ‘pouch’.
Process benefits when using the films
MYLAR® COOK films can be used simply and reliably on MULTI-VAC's thermoforming packaging machines. Short forming and sealing procedures enable a high cycle output to be achieved; the wide forming and sealing temperature range of the films makes their processing simple and reliable.
DuPont Teijin has all the relevant certification with regard to direct food contact with plastic packaging in high temperature applications up to 218 degrees Celsius (425 degrees Fahrenheit): MYLAR® COOK films comply with the directives of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as those of the European Union and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The manufacture of MYLAR® COOK films is in accordance with the regulations of the BRC/IOP worldwide packaging standard and is certified to ISO 9001, IMS and HACCP.
