I’ve been hearing from major buyers and packaging companies that they’re being challenged to find new suppliers and new materials. And we are also hearing from vendors that they have developed solutions, new products, or new materials, and they can’t find the people who need them. I’m hearing from both sides. There’s a need to be connected.

Supply challenges, global unrest, and sustainability expectations have changed what companies need. Products might have remained the same for many years, but the time pressure on companies to find solutions is tighter than ever. It can no longer be done or supported only through legacy networks built on people’s relationships.

From a buyer’s perspective, there’s no common method for finding the right supplier, capability, or solution. Whether that’s through associations or industry groups, buyers can miss a lot of potential suppliers that aren’t part of that particular group, and there is no standardized way to do this.

The second piece is the way vendors promote their information. It’s not always in the language or understanding that buyers need when they’re looking for a solution. Vendors promote things differently from how buyers may be looking for them. The connectivity issue is a big part of the challenge between vendors and buyers.

We’re working on [FOREST-PKG](https://www.forest-pkg.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) as the go-to platform, and we’re spending a lot of time building the right profiles. The goal is for people to work more on projects and spend less time searching and looking for solutions. All we’re doing is trying to reduce the friction and time it takes for them to find each other and start getting to work on solving problems.

If we can eliminate 100 million hours of wasted time and energy in the packaging industry, that time can be used to create more sustainable, lower cost packaging solutions.

Think about somebody trying to search for a product to replace something they have today. They may end up finding a product and doing a lot of testing, only to realize that product isn’t meant for their use. The more we can do to not only help them find and connect, but find the right connection, the better.

By connecting with academic and association research papers, testing, and tools that tell us what’s working and not working in the world, and by bringing several of these connection points together, not only can we search and find, but we can know and engage with the right solutions quicker, with more logic and intelligence behind it.

**Ultimately, it’s about connecting people to the right people faster.**
