ProAmpac introduces intelligent packaging range for food applications

ProAmpac has launched its ProActive Intelligence Shelf Protect (SP) Series designed for select meat, seafood, and dairy applications and aiming to preserve product quality and reduce spoilage.
Suitable for products such as fresh beef, pork and cheese, deli meat and cooked sausage, the technology is said to be FDA and USDA compliant. The new packaging seeks to support longer shelf life throughout storage and distribution by reducing microbial growth associated with food spoilage.
ProAmpac partnered with Copperprotek to develop its Shelf Protect Technology, built directly into the food-contact packaging film and designed to help customers reduce losses from markdowns, shrink, and disposal. The company says Shelf Protect maintains package clarity without altering the film’s physical and seal properties and demonstrated extended shelf-life for fresh beef, fresh pork, and cooked sausage in studies conducted by food manufacturers and third-party laboratories.
ProAmpac adds that shelf-life gains vary by product, processing conditions, initial microbial count at packaging, storage practices and other operational factors, which require case-by-case food trials. Shelf Protect is being incorporated into the company’s TruTite-SP-1000 boneless shrink bags and tubestock, ClearShield-SP-1000 bone-in shrink bags and tubestock and its Envio-SP-1000 forming and non-forming films.
This summer Securikett revealed a new technology designed to replace conventional heat sealing for trays with a secure labelling solution, said to be ‘safer, faster, and more cost-efficient’ than traditional heat-sealing processes. The tamper-evident seal immediately indicates if a package has been opened or tampered with through the integrated VOID effect.
In other food packaging news, Cirkla, Belmark and Ossid unveiled the ‘world’s first’ resealable fibre tray, intended as a sustainability-minded, scalable, and cost-competitive alternative to plastics. The packaging is suitable for food categories such as fresh protein, produce, and ready meals.
