[**Ambio**](https://www.ambiomaterials.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) **has raised €5.1 million for its AI-native, end-to-end procurement solution for recycled plastics in a seed round led by** [**b2venture**](https://www.b2venture.vc/?ref=packagingeurope.com)**.**

According to Ambio, the quality of recycled polymers can vary between sources, batches, and processing histories. Data is often scattered or missing, while quality is often confirmed on the production line itself. As a result, recycled plastics procurement is described as ‘fragmented, manual, and difficult to scale’.

Ambio’s procurement solution intends to unlock a reliable supply of verified recycled plastics, acting as a single accountable partner from first sample to long-term deliveries. It aims to strengthen market growth by acting as a principal that controls the supply chain, takes responsibility for quality assurance, and provides data for transparency.

Materials are qualified via samples, documentation, and defined quality protocols. Ambio’s matching engine learns from each transaction, adding structured data on materials, suppliers, pricing and outcomes to improve its matching, quoting and execution processes.

“People in the industry like to talk about regulation and the EU,” says Ambio CEO Tommi Bergström. “We are a startup, we cannot yet impact what happens in Brussels. What we can impact is the purchasing experience for the buyer.

“When you’re buying virgin plastics, you know exactly what you’re getting. When you’re buying recycled, you’ll know if it works when it’s running in your production line. Our goal is to predict if the material works or not before sampling even happens.”

The current €5.1 million seed round is led by b2venture, with participation from [Lifeline Ventures](https://www.lifelineventures.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) and [Montis](https://montis.digital/?ref=packagingeurope.com). It is set to help Ambio scale internationally and across polymer types – a move hoped to drive procurement for recycled polymers, boost supply chain resilience, and help decrease the EU’s dependency on imported fossils.

Ambio adds that recycled materials come at a price advantage, align with regulatory requirements, and meet increasing demand from customers.

“We are backing Ambio not only because of the talented team led by Tommi and Elmo but also because of the compounding competitive moat the business is built on: a proprietary dataset on recyclate quality, a principal model that builds trust with buyers and sellers, and an agentic engine that turns every transaction and quality data point into improved matchmaking,” says Mathias Ockenfels, partner at b2venture. “We are convinced that Ambio will become the central marketplace for recycled plastics in Europe and beyond.”

In other news, Resycure’s QI suite for controlling and optimizing PCR has also been [nominated](https://packagingeurope.com/news/announcing-the-finalists-of-packaging-europes-sustainability-awards-2026/14337.article?ref=packagingeurope.com) for a [Sustainability Award](https://packagingeurope.com/sustainability-awards/?ref=packagingeurope.com) under the Digital Transformation category. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony during the [Sustainable Packaging Summit](https://www.packagingsummit.earth/4BwrOe?utm%5Fsource=PE&utm%5Fcampaign=summit26&utm%5Fmedium=navbar), taking place in Utrecht from 10 – 12 November 2026.

Also, [Kenvue](https://www.kenvue.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) is using Resycure’s [digital platform](https://www.packagingeurope.com/kenvue-streamlines-pcr-in-its-packaging-with-resycures-data-platform/) to unlock batch-level traceability, transparent data, consistent quality and more while implementing post-consumer recyclate into its packaging. The companies claim to monitor over 100 batches of post-consumer recyclate per quarter, resulting in more consistent visibility and proactive decision-making.
