[**Sidel**](https://www.sidel.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) **has revealed EvoDECO, its next-generation roll-fed labelling solution for partial beverage labels – designed to offer ‘significantly lower’ material consumption and more decoration freedom.**

Roll-fed labelling is traditionally associated with wraparound decoration, but it can now be applied to smaller partial labels using EvoDECO Next. Downsizing bottle labels is hoped to help businesses lightweight their bottles and improve both material efficiency and circularity.

According to Sidel, a 90° partial-label configuration can reduce label surface by up to 75% compared with a conventional wraparound label. A 180° configuration is set to reduce label surface by 50%.

High-volume producers are expected to deliver ‘significant’ savings from partial labelling. By transitioning from a full wraparound label to a 90° partial label, one customer is thought to have reduced its annual BOPP consumption by 208.4 tonnes, lowered its subsequent CO2 emissions by 346 tonnes, and generated around €723,000 in annual raw material savings.

Revealing more of the bottle can also help brands incorporate the shape and transparency of the container, as well as the product inside, part of a pack’s visual identity – unlocking a ‘premium’ aesthetic.

Engineered as an integrated platform, EvoDECO Next’s architecture combines Cutter 2.0, Smart Buffer, Smart Camera, and High-Speed changeover parts – aiming to unlock seamless feeding, cutting, transfer and control.

The new cutting system is positioned directly on the transfer drum, with the rotary cutting device using two blades to cut faster at high speed and handle shorter labels.

The Smart Buffer is designed to absorb reel changes without changing the production speed. Its splicing operation can be managed at the nominal speed to maintain overall production efficiency, and it does not require any adjustments to the system footprint of the standard film path.

The Smart Camera is designed to manage labels without requiring a reference mark. Without the conventional quiet zone, it is believed to increase flexibility for raw materials and labels – and to introduce further opportunities for material savings.

Dedicated software has been introduced to support autocorrection, improve auto-homing, and enhance diagnostics.

The high-speed Changeover parts are also intended to support machine autonomy and process robustness. Sidel has implemented an optimized sliding surface and air-blade system to minimize glue cross-contamination and label stress, which is expected to avoid unplanned stops and extend machine autonomy by up to five times.

Additionally, EvoDECO Next can be combined with Sidel’s CoboREEL automated reel-management solution. This is thought to reduce operator intervention, embed traceability, and support greater production autonomy of up to 18 reels.

Since the launch, Sidel claims to have sold over 330 EvoDECO machines and installed over 5,000 labellers globally.

“EvoDECO Next rethinks what is possible with roll-fed labelling,” said Anne Philippe Lafon, product manager – Labelling at Sidel. “Producers no longer need to choose between industrial efficiency, material reduction and impactful decoration.

“By enabling partial labels on a simplified roll-fed architecture, we can help customers use less material, create new brand opportunities and maintain the performance their production lines demand.”

In other news, [Plockmatic Group](https://plockmaticgroup.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com)’s [ColorCut FB9550 Pro-T](https://www.packagingeurope.com/plockmatic-group-targets-increased-productivity-and-material-control-with-new-cutter/) die cutter is designed to maximize productivity and deliver ‘ultimate’ material control with its 5-tool head. It is also intended to process thin self-adhesive labels and media up to 3mm thick for folders, packaging, point-of-sale, and labels.

Meanwhile, [Videojet](https://www.videojet.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com)’s [9310 label applicator](https://www.packagingeurope.com/videojet-seeks-consistent-performance-and-intuitive-operation-with-new-label-applicator/) is set to help manufacturers achieve more predictable labelling performance for applications including rigid and flexible trays, pouches and containers. It is set to aid performance with easier setup and operation and fewer production interruptions.
