[**Undercover Snacks**](https://www.undercoversnacks.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) **has announced a majority investment by** [**Mondelēz International**](https://www.mondelezinternational.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) **aiming to accelerate innovation, long-term growth and distribution.**

The company will continue to operate as a standalone business led by its existing management team. Undercover was founded in 2016 after CEO Diana Levy sought to create a tasty, ‘better-for-you’ snack for her family after two of her three teenaged daughters were diagnosed with celiac disease. Undercover has continued to expand its chocolate-covered, gluten free quinoa concept with new flavours and formats.

Undercover Snacks products are currently sold at retailers including [Target](https://www.target.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com), [Walmart](https://www.walmart.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com), [Whole Foods Market](https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) and [Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com). The company also claims to have handed out over 175 million units since 2023 as part of its collaboration with [United Airlines](https://www.united.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com), with its products included as one of the complimentary main cabin snacks.

Diana Levy will continue as Undercover CEO and Michael Levy will continue as President and COO. Both Diana and Michael will retain a significant minority stake in Undercover and serve on its Board of Directors.

Speaking on the investment, Diana Levy says:

"When I first started making chocolate quinoa crisps in my kitchen, I was simply trying to create a snack that my entire family could enjoy. I never imagined how far that idea would go. We now have an extraordinary team, which includes my husband and three daughters, products that consumers genuinely love and an opportunity to build Undercover into something much bigger. Mondelēz shares our passion for great-tasting snacks and brings world-class capabilities that can help us innovate faster, reach many more consumers and build Undercover into a major global brand — while enabling us to preserve the culture, entrepreneurial spirit and passion for simple, high-quality ingredients that make Undercover special."

Earlier this year, Mondelēz International [partnered](https://www.packagingeurope.com/amcor-and-mondelz-wrap-cadbury-mini-eggs-in-65-recycled-plastic/) with [Amcor](https://www.amcor.com/?ref=packagingeurope.com) to wrap [Cadbury](https://www.cadbury.co.uk/?ref=packagingeurope.com)’s 31.9g, 74g and 256g Mini Eggs bags in 65% certified recycled plastic packaging for Easter, allocated through a mass balance approach. The packaging uses Amcor’s AmFiniti Recycled Content, which converts post-consumer plastic waste into new packaging.

More recently, the company [replaced](https://www.packagingeurope.com/mondelz-international-replaces-pet-cookie-trays-with-fsc-certified-paper/) rigid PET trays for its flagship European cookies range with FSC-certified paper trays, spanning over 115 cookie products across eight brands. The move is expected to remove 2,200 tonnes of virgin plastic per year, representing a reduction of around 80% compared to the original plastic packaging.
