High-caliper laminated folding box board now available from Holmen

Holmen has launched Incada Duo, a laminated folding box board for high-caliper packaging in premium food, beverage, cosmetics, and consumer goods applications.

Reportedly, the Incada paperboard family is made from fresh fibres of known and traceable origin. It is described as stiff and lightweight with a high yield, and is set to reduce both fibre consumption and transportation weight compared to alternatives.

Incada Duo is available in grammages ranging from 430 to 710 gsm. All the raw materials used in its production are approved for food contact and achieve taint and odour neutrality. Its outer layers consist of white chemical sulphate pulp with fully coated surfaces for print reproduction and visual appeal.

“Incada Duo suits high-end packaging applications where visual impact and material efficiency are essential,” says Edvin Thurfjell, product manager at Holmen Board and Paper. “Our laminated construction combines multiple fibre layers to deliver exceptional thickness and a powerful shelf presence.”

“Thanks to the well-balanced behaviour of our Incada base board, we can extend the portfolio into higher calipers,” adds Mark Browne, account manager UK and Ireland, Holmen Board and Paper. “This is important across many markets, but Incada Duo is particularly well suited to premium beverages, cosmetics, confectionery, gift packs and other luxury consumer goods.”

Holmen aims to meet rising demand for premium, material-efficient and sustainability-minded packaging solutions across multiple sectors on the UK packaging market. These include premium consumer brands such as Scotch whisky and gin, as well as beauty and personal care companies.

Holmen manufactures its Incada paperboard at its mill in Workington, UK, which has been powered by fossil-free bioenergy since 2013. The board is also laminated within the UK.

This approach is expected to shorten transport distances and boost resource efficiency in the supply chain – helping brand owners and converters source high-caliper paperboard locally while supporting their own sustainability ambitions.

In similar news, Metsä Board has unveiled its Pro FBB Go folding boxboard. Designed for demanding food and pharmaceutical packaging, the solution aims to unlock consistent quality and performance while supporting compliance needs in regulated segments.

Stora Enso has also revealed its Performa Lumi GC1 folding boxboard, which targets premium visual impact and efficient material use for everyday beauty, personal care and healthcare packaging.
