Seven-Eleven Japan adopts Osaka Sealing Printing’s thermal paper labels

Osaka Sealing Printing has announced that its Treeloop Thermal paper will be used for bento box product labels at Seven-Eleven Japan (SEJ) stores, with label demonstration tests taking place at approximately 300 stores in Chiba Prefecture.

The demonstration tests began on November 3rd, using a selection of around 15 bento box products. The Treeloop Thermal paper is said to be environmentally friendly and utilize biomass-derived colour developers instead of bisphenol A and bisphenol S.

According to Osaka Sealing Printing, the thermal non-paper parts of the labels have been replaced with 10-20% naturally derived materials. SEJ has been aiming to reduce its environmental impact in response to concerns about rising energy and material prices by utilizing paper materials, reducing the weight of containers, and commercializing containers made from recycled materials.

Selected boxed items such as Nori Bento will use the new labels, available at Chiba stores (near JR Chiba Station) and approximately 300 stores in Narita. The boxes are on sale from November 3rd – December 7th.

In other labelling news, UPM Specialty Materials has extended its barrier paper technology to label face papers under its new UPM Asendo 80 grade, which applies grease-resistance technology to labelling without using PFAS. The grade is available as FSC or PEFC certified and the range now includes an 80gsm basis weight.

In the same month, Futamura and Bio4life unveiled a certified home and industrially compostable PSA label, designed to help retailers and packers eliminate conventional plastic stickers from fresh fruit and vegetables. The new label seeks to meet growing demand for environmentally responsible packaging solutions without compromising performance, printability or application efficiency.
